The Most Common Best Answers In An Interview

Everyone wants to perform well in a job interview. It can mean the difference between getting a job you’re qualified for and losing it to a person who is less qualified. While it’s always important to be honest in an interview, knowing how to answer difficult questions effectively is a very important skill. Below are three of the most common interview questions and the best responses to give.

Tell me about yourself

This is the most common interview question. It is also one of the most difficult to answer. You want the interviewer to get a good idea of who you are as a person, but it’s important to not reveal too much about yourself. Don’t give the interviewer your entire life story; share only pertinent information about your education, experience and goals. You can also discuss your current life situation and any appropriate, related hobbies you may have. Also, discuss advantages you may have over other potential applicants, such as knowledge of a foreign language or advanced computer skills.

What is your greatest strength?

This is your chance to really wow the interviewer. A lot can be said in response to this question, but it’s important to know the right way to answer it. Don’t hold back; relate as many positive, honest attributes as you can. Be sure to mention only relevant, work-related strengths. Bring up compliments from former employers, if applicable.

What is your greatest weakness?

This is by far the most difficult question to answer. It’s important to be honest, but don’t reveal too much. Answering this question incorrectly can mean the end of your interview. If asked this question, just respond with a minor, work-related trait that you’re trying to fix. Perhaps you’d like to be more organized or focused, for example. Be sure you don’t choose a strength and present it as a weakness. Interviewers can usually see right through an answer like that, and will judge you accordingly.
